Where can you walk to directly from the park?

Do you like to be able to get somewhere without getting behind the wheel? Having time to reach places by foot is one of the best things about being on holiday. Here’s a brief roundup of the places you can reach within a 30-minute walk from our parks. Parks are listed from north to south.

 

River Tweed and honey farm – Chainbridge Touring Caravan Site, Northumberland

Situated on the South Bank of the river that divides England and Scotland, you can take a short walk from Chainbridge Touring Caravan Site along the river to the famous Union Bridge. There’s a Honey Farm next door which has a visitor centre and a cafe in a bus.

Quaint village, forest and town – Overbrook Caravan Park, North Yorkshire

Thornton le Dale village centre is only a 10 minute walk from Overbrook Caravan Park on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. It can be accessed through a lovely woodland walk or directly via the main pathway. The village itself has two pubs (serving food), cafes, gift shops and is also home to the now well known Mathewsons Classic Cars, who have their own hit TV show, Bangers & Cash. Dalby Forest is also within walking distance from the park, as is the town of Pickering (approx 30 minutes).

 

Local pub, shops and bus service – York Caravan Park

There’s a local pub and bakery about 10-15 minutes walk from York Caravan Park. A half-hourly bus service leaves from the park gate, taking 10 minutes to get to the city centre.

Pub, locks, marina and cafe –York Naburn Lock Caravan Park

The amazing Victorian Locks are just a minute away from York Naburn Lock Caravan Park. There’s also a great village pub about 10 minutes away, or you can reach the York Marina and Cafe in about 15 minutes. Occasionally you can see visiting seals at the locks, and there are regularly buzzards, hawks, owls, kingfishers and deer in the fields and water surrounding the campsite. (There is also the river walk into York, although this takes longer than 30 minutes!)

Two villages – Blue Rose Country Park, East Riding of Yorkshire

Blue Rose Country Park lies between the two villages of Brandesburton and Leven on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. Both are within easy walking distance and have pubs serving good food, a delicatessen and takeaways. Local countryside walks are posted on the park’s website.

 

River Trent and country walks – Brookside Country Park, Lincolnshire

Brookside Country Park is just 150 yards from the river Trent with a local pub, The Ferry House Inn, 350 yards from the park. The local village of Burton-on-Stather, with a shop and pub, is 800 yards away. You’ll find local circular walks posted on the park’s website.

 

The Viking Way and Caistor – Wolds View Touring Park, Lincolnshire

An ancient trackway known as the Viking Way is a 10-minute walk from the Wolds View Touring Park entrance. The park is just one mile from Caistor town centre, a historic town with Georgian buildings, quirky shops, cafes, pubs, markets and a heritage centre.

 

Dog friendly beach – Cherry Tree Springs Touring Park, Lincolnshire

From Cherry Tree Springs Touring Park it’s only a 15-minutes walk along the costal path to the beach.

 

Award winning beach – Tyddyn Du Touring Park, North Wales

There’s an award winning beach, Penmaenmawr, about 10-15 minutes walk from Tyddyn Du Touring Park. Renowned for its panoramic sea views, the park has several local eateries within walking distance.

 

Scenic walks, pub and shop – The Willows Caravan & Camping Park, North Wales

The closest shop is about 400m from the The Willows Caravan & Camping Park, with the closest pub just over a mile away. Whichever direction you take from the park, the coastal views are spectacular.

Country footpaths – Longnor Wood Holiday Park Derbyshire

You can get onto country footpaths directly from Longnor Wood Holiday Park in Derbyshire. However, it may take a bit more than half an hour to reach the historic local village, Longnor. The village itself has a craft centre, cobbled marketplace and tours around the hidden alleys and passages.

 

Ancient market town – Red Kite Touring Park, Powys

Just over a mile from Red Kite Touring Park is the ancient market town of Llanidloes, which dates back to the 12th Century and has shops and places to eat as well as a Saturday market.

Local village – Delph Bank Touring Park, Lincolnshire

It takes just under 10 minutes to walk into the village of Fleet Hargate from Delph Bank Touring Park in the heart of the Fens. The village has a range of wide range of shops, as well as a pub, tea room, restaurant and farm shop. Buses for Spalding and King’s Lynn leave from here.

 

Country inn and village – Two Mills Touring Park, Norfolk

The closest restaurant is just 150 yards from Two Mills Touring Park. You can follow a footpath across the fields to the local village of North Walsham, which is one mile away. It’s a lively village with shops and pubs.

 

Village with many amenities – Keal Lodge Caravan Park, Lincolnshire

It’s just one mile to picturesque Market Deeping from Keal Lodge Caravan Park. In addition to the usual shops and eateries, the village has a swimming pool, leisure centre, market, nature walks, golf and fishing.

 

Golf and bowling – Stroud Hill Park, Cambridgeshire

Adjacent to Stroud Hill Park is an 18-hole pay and play golf course, along with a 10-pin bowling alley.

 

Country pub – Wheathill Touring Park, Shropshire

Within a very short walking distance of Wheathill Touring Park is a highly rated country pub, The Three Horseshoes.

Golf, fishing and village – Somers Wood Caravan Park, Warwickshire

Stonebridge Golf Course is adjacent to Somers Wood Caravan Park. It has a bar and restaurant open to Somers Wood guests (and dogs). There’s a course fishery a few moments walk from the park and the village of Meriden, once thought to be in the exact centre of England, is just one mile away. The village has traditional shops, inns and restaurants.

 

Village with pub – Run Cottage Touring Park, Suffolk

Run Cottage Touring Park is a five-minute walk away from the village of Hollesley, where the Suffolk Punch heavy horse trust is based. The village has food shops and a traditional pub.

 

Village, woodland and local walks – South Wales Touring Park

The nearest village to South Wales Touring Park is Llangennech – a 10-15 minute walk from the park. The village has a pub, shops and takeaways. There’s also a community woodland that’s easy to reach from the park. Local walks from the park include the Llangennech trail Part 1 and Part 2you follow the path of the Afon Morlais from Troserch Woods through Llangennech to the coast where the walk links with the Millennium Coastal Park.

 

Great village pub, lake and cafe – Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park

It’s just a few moments’ walk from Bath Chew Valley Caravan Park to the Red Lion Inn in the village of Bishop Sutton, where you can expect a warm welcome, local beers and hearty food. The village also has a small shop. Down the lane in the other direction you reach footpaths around Chew Valley Lake with its amazing birdlife, leading to a restaurant/takeaway serving comfort-food lunches and afternoon teas.

England’s smallest city – Wells Touring Park, Somerset

Wells Touring Park is located 1.5 miles outside of the medieval City of Wells. Must-sees in the ancient city include the cathedral and the Bishop’s Palace with its stunning grounds. In addition to shops, pubs and cafes, there’s a popular farmers’ market in Wells.

Glastonbury Tor and town – Old Oaks Touring & Glamping Park, Somerset

From the Old Oaks Touring & Glamping Park it’s a short stroll to Glastonbury Tor, steeped in myth and legend. You can also reach Glastonbury town with its Abbey and new Mural Trail, as well as interesting shops and places to eat.

 

Reservoir for wildlife – Hallsdown Farm Touring Park, North Devon

Wistlandpound Reservoir, located on the edge of Exmoor National Park, is a wildlife haven with fishing boating, birdwatching and a walking path. It’s about half a mile from Hallsdown Farm Touring Park.

Pub, shops and leisure store – Greenacres Touring Park, Somerset

The Skylark Pub is approximately 600 metres from Greenacres Touring Park near Wellington in Somerset. You can reach several other handy establishments within 10 minutes on foot, including a garage with a supermarket, a gym, a Costa Coffee, a bus stop and the Chelston Motorhomes centre with the Chelston Leisure Store accessory shop.

Horseriding, pub, trailway and park – Back of Beyond Touring Camping & Glamping Park, Dorset

There are excellent riding stables on the approach lane to Back of Beyond Touring Camping & Glamping Park which have direct access to the local forest. From the end of the approach lane, it’s a short distance to the Woodman Pub. Great places for walking nearby are Hurn Forest and the Castleman Trailway (a former railway line).

Cornish village – Killiwerris Touring Park

A new internal path at Killiwerris Touring Park means you can now join the bridle path network from the site and get to the local village of Chacewater about a mile away.
