Back of Beyond Touring Camping & Glamping Park

St Leonards, Dorset

Back of Beyond Touring Park is a relaxed, adult only caravan site set in 30 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside.

Owners Martin and Victoria have laid out over 100 pitches plus a wild camping area so that you can enjoy the woods, heathland, and wildlife lakes.

Everything about Back of Beyond Touring Park is welcoming and well cared for. The park is ideal for visiting the New Forest, Dorset Jurassic Coast, Poole Harbour, Bournemouth and Christchurch.

It’s also the ideal country retreat to return to in the evening.

Our Park Facilities

Back of Beyond Touring Park is set back from the road among woods, heathland, lakes and river, providing habitats for animals and spectacular bird-life.

Well behaved dogs are welcome. They must be on a lead around the pitches – but they can run free over 18 acres of woodland within secure park boundaries.

Touring caravan pitches are level, mostly well-drained, very firm grass and some are reinforced with matting. Most pitches have 10A electric hook-up with fresh water taps and waste water drains at frequent intervals.

We also have a beautiful woodland glade, Emma’s Field, in a designated site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). This is ideal for campers who want to get closer to the wildlife. Dogs are not permitted in this area.

Back of Beyond Touring Park has two amenity blocks with high quality toilet and shower blocks with power-showers. There is also a ladies strip-wash cubicle, private/disabled shower room, hand-dryers, hairdryers and all the usual equipment.

Everything is free to use, open 24 hours and kept very clean.

The Reception shop is licensed and stocks essentials (including gas), such as local produce, eggs, local wines and beers, meat from an excellent local butcher and honey from the beehives on site. In the summer season, you can order newspapers and fresh morning bakery. For other supplies, supermarkets and caravan and camping centres are nearby.

There are lots of local guides in the Information Hut and you can borrow a book or DVD from our small library. The friendly staff are happy to help with any questions you may have.

Free WiFi is available.

Leisure Activities

Leisure activities on the park include a pitch & putt course, which is almost half a mile long if you laid the holes end to end! Then there’s the Boules pitch. Both are free to use and you can borrow clubs and balls from Reception. Rabbits, moles and squirrels add interest!

The two beautiful lakes and river are for wildlife. You can try your luck at fishing on the river for free if you have a license but you need to understand that nature has provided some pretty efficient fisherman with herons and otters frequenting the site. For the dedicated angler, the Stour, Avon and specialist fisheries are nearby.

Exclusive guided cycling tours to Moors Valley Country Park and into the New Forest National Park with a British Cycling accredited guide are available when pre-arranged.

At the end of another great day in the New Forest or Dorset countryside, you’ll find a pub serving refreshments and food within a comfortable walk from the park.

Visiting caterers

In the summer months, you can enjoy fish & chips, pizza and other food from mobile caterers. There are also occasional visits from a mobile bar and tastings by local breweries and wineries.

Activities and Local Attractions

Headline attractions are the New Forest and the Jurassic Coast but there are many ways you can enjoy east Dorset! Try walking, cycling, horse-riding, fishing, bird-watching, natural history or just capturing the scenery in photographs.

Near to Back of Beyond Touring Park is Moors Valley Country Park, Avon Heath Country Park, and Hurn Forest. Collect your free guide to local walking and cycling paths from reception.

A cycle ride or short drive takes you to some beautiful New Forest towns and villages such as Burley and Brockenhurst. You will also find some small shops and country pubs nearby.

The likes of Bournemouth, Poole, Ringwood, Salisbury and Wimborne Minster are also near, each with shopping areas, places to eat, entertainment, museums, boot sales and markets.

30-60 minutes’ drive will take you to the stunning Dorset coast, where you can enjoy extensive walks along the South West Coast Path and parts of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Be sure to visit the Jurassic Coast Centre at Lulworth Cove (with iconic Durdle Door close by), Swanage and Kimmeridge Bay.
