The Solar Path to York City cycle route

The Sustrans Route 65 trail into York is 6 miles. It’s a year-round, all-weather surface and almost entirely traffic-free. The cycle track follows the route of the former Selby to York railway from old Naburn station along the ‘Solar System’ pathway. It then joins a greenway into York Racecourse. After crossing a main road, the cycle track descends on the River Ouse tow path, up to Millennium bridge and into York city at Skeldergate.

Naburn-York River Ouse Walk

The path is 4.6 miles, flat and mostly traffic free, through beautiful countryside along the River Ouse. There are 3 stiles (by-passable). Cycles are prohibited from a section of the river path near the city. Refreshments are available along the walk during Summer. Visitors who don’t regularly walk distances might consider returning by bus from York Piccadilly.

The City of York

There really is so much to see and do around our fabulous City of York. If you are staying at York Naburn Lock Caravan Park, most of York City’s top attractions are within walking distance of the No 42 bus stop in Piccadilly. You would not want to miss York’s imposing Minster which dominates the skyline of the city. Be amazed by the panoramic views from a Minster tower tour. Second among the ‘must see’ venues is Cliffords Tower, sometimes known as York Castle. York Castle Museum and Jorvik Viking Centre are nearby. York’s National Railway Museum is also well worth a visit.

Stunning coasts, dramatic moors and more

Being close to the A64 York-Scarborough road, makes the caravan park ideal for a tour of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park or a day trip to our beautiful Yorkshire Coast.

Castle Howard

It took three generations to complete Castle Howard, one of the World’s top mansions and star of the romantic television drama ‘Brideshead Revisited’. Castle Howard and its grounds are truly one of Yorkshire’s great treasures, a short drive or bus-ride from the caravan park.

Scarborough, Yorkshire’s Victorian Seaside Resort

Robin Hood’s Bay

The coastal scenery grows more dramatic as you drive North along the coast road from Scarborough, past the Old Peak at Ravenscar and into Robin Hood’s Bay. This remote fishing village at the foot of a steep cliff is one of Yorkshire’s culinary treats. Make time for lunch before walking the Cleveland way coastal path around the bay.

Whitby

The coastal tour leads us into Eskdale and Whitby, a favourite Yorkshire fishing harbour and beach resort. 199 steps above the town, the skeleton of Whitby Abbey overlooks the harbour’s stout breakwaters. Whitby deserves more than a short visit, but if that’s all you can manage, do sample Whitby fish & chips or a crab sandwich before returning over the moors to the caravan park.

North Yorkshire Moors

The North York Moors National Park is an immense area of diverse forest, heather moor and scenic dales with crystal clear waterfalls and rivers. Guests can enjoy day trips on to the North York Moors from the caravan park’s convenient location close to the A64 road. A popular tour is Malton and Pickering, then along beautiful Newton Dale to Yorkshire Television’s picturesque ‘Aidensfield’ village (Goathland) at the ‘heart’ (or ‘Heartbeat’) of the moor. Goathland Railway station also acquired more recent notoriety as a filming location for Harry Potter. A shorter tour is to the historic market town at Helmsley and on to Helmsley Moor, visiting Rievaulx Abbey.

For a real treat, travel to Pickering and cross the North Yorkshire Moors to Whitby on the North York
Moors heritage railway.
