New family at Yr Helyg/The Willows

We’d like to welcome the Jones family to Tranquil Parks. They recently took over The Willows Caravan & Camping Park on the beautiful Llyn Peninsula in North Wales.

The family consists of Eleri and Hywel, plus their 3 grown up sons Owain, Tudur and Dafydd. Local to the area, they have a beef and sheep farm about 3 miles away, as well as a boat launching and storage business in Abersoch, the picturesque seaside town.

Eleri took a break from dealing with the red tape of taking on a new business to tell us about the family and their plans for the touring park. Known for its stunning location and breathtaking views over Snowdonia and Cardigan bay, it’s a great base for exploring the beaches, mountains and historic sites in this scenic part of the country. Set in peaceful countryside, it’s also perfect for just relaxing.

“We were wondering whether to expand the farm or go for something different,” Eleri tells us. “Tourism is very popular in this area, so when The Willows came up it was a complete package.”

Running the touring park

You’ll find that the same wardens, Graham and Mandy, still running the park 5 days a week. The eldest son, Owain, will be living on site so that he’ll be on hand when the wardens are off duty. For part of the week he works as a radiographer.

Eleri, although retired, still works as a nurse one day a week in Bangor. The youngest son works on the farm with his father, Hywel, and the middle son is an engineer.

Plans for Yr Helyg/TheWillows

There’s a new website on the way and a luxury shepherd’s hut will soon be in place. Complete with kitchen and bathroom, it will take the place of two camping pods.

The static caravan, which is available to rent and has an amazing view from its deck, is having its lounge updated. There are also plans to update the other glamping units, the Chill Pod and Eye Pod.

When it comes to promoting the park, the Welsh name for the Willows, Yr Helyg, will be more prominent in future. The family are all native Welsh speakers and Eleri says “I think it’s important to put the Welsh name first. Many people who come to Wales find the language fascinating.”

They will also be making more of the local village Mynytho, in the marketing, as well as Abersoch, about 3 miles away, which is renowned for its beaches, sailing and watersports.

Time away from the businesses

The whole family lead very busy lives and when they can take time out they enjoy travelling. Since the Covid lockdowns they’ve discovered how enjoyable hassle-free holidays in the UK can be! (We couldn’t agree more!)
